One day, I started reading Twilight, the first book in the Stephenie Meyer four book saga. May I just say, "Stephenie Meyer, you are a genius!" This sentiment is felt not only by me, but also by the millions of other Twilighters across the world. Never in my forty-three years on this earth did I ever think I would become obsessive over a book series. There was just something about this romantic, drama, comedy, sci-fi, thriller that kept me tuned into the Cullen/Swan world.
My eighteen year old daughter is the pusher behind this drug. That's what it is you know. It's a drug that you can't stop. By the time you finish the fourth book, you're doomed. It's time for Twilighter's anonymous and you really need that twelve step program. And yes, there is a twelve step program on my fan site. So, my daughter introduced me to this new wonderful drug and now I'm an addict and just can't stop. At the time she introduced Twilight to me, I was deep into another vampire book series. She was reading Twilight and I was reading my other books and we were comparing vampires and the different characteristics the two authors had given them. Our conversations went something like this:
Daughter: "Mom, you have to read Twilight! You will really like it."
Mom: "O.K. I'll read it, just let me finish the books I'm reading now."
Daughter: "My vampires are much better than yours are."
Mom: "I doubt that. Let me tell you about the vampires in my books."
Daughter: "No, mom. I'll stick with Twilight."
Then she proceeds to tell me about Edward, the wonderful sparkling vampire who lives in Forks, Washington. I have to say, I was intrigued. I also must say, that as soon as I read the first book, I knew then that maybe I should listen more to what my teenage daughter had to say. Now, she says I'm a nerd. And for my birthday, she bought me an official Twilight movie t-shirt.
Alright, I know I'm not alone when I say for two weeks my family was somewhat neglected. My laundry piled up, my three wonderful daughters ate fast food and cereal for dinner, and my husband communicated with me through email because when I was not reading, I was online learning everything I could about the Twilight phenomenon. Not only was I researching things, I was creating my own fan site too. It was all over for my life that had existed before the books, I was now a Twilight fanpire, a Twilaholic, a Twilight Maniac, oh no......, I was a Twilighter!
It was really hard to digest the fact that I was now the drug pusher. I pushed it on all my friends and family. They soon entered the land of Vampires and Werewolves with me and they too were somehow magically trapped in this beautiful, sparkling, adventurous world. It's really amazing how it works. One day you're just reading a book and the next day you are consumed by day dreams and visions of everything you have just read and everything you want to happen. I actually went through withdrawal so bad that I had to download the audio books from Audible.com to my ipod just so that I could listen to them over and over again at work everyday. Then, every night, I was on the internet researching everything I could find about the author, the book series, the movie, the cast and all of the other Twilight inspired fan web sites. Then it hit me, I wanted my own fan site so I would have a legitimate reason to be obsessed, I mean interested in this mania. And that's what it was. It was Twilight Mania!
So, through several weeks of staying up until dawn working on my website (you would think I was turning into a vampire with not really being sleepy at all), talking to friends and family about ideas for the site, telling everyone I knew about it and hoping it would turn out to be dazzling, TwilightMania.com was born. Then, after all the hard work I had put into it, I took a good long look at the site and I felt that it just wasn't good enough. What was I going to do? After all, it was just a hobby, an interest. But, something that had started out as a hobby, had turned into a full time obsession! Did I really want to put a large amount of money into this site to get it where I wanted. Yes. Yes I did! So I decided to hire a web designer for help, and through another week of sleepless nights, I finally felt that it had turned out to be one of the most dazzling sites around! Right now it is very new and I'm running it all by myself, but I hope that it will grow soon.
TwilightMania will focus on providing up to date news, contests, a wonderful forum, and much more. The members will be known as the Maniacs and we will try to dazzle you somehow everyday! And now.....I'm working on my next Twilight inspired site, CullenaryArt.com. A site for Twilight fans to show off their Twilight artwork.
